Day 2 Amman Salt Amman

The ancient town As-Salt was once the most important settlement in the area between the Jordan Valley and the eastern desert. Because of its history as an important trading link between the eastern desert and the west, it was a significant place for the region's many rulers. The Romans, Byzantines and Mamluk all contributed to the growth of the town but it was at the end of the 19th and the beginning of the 20th century, during Ottoman rule, when As-Salt enjoyed its most prosperous period. It was at that time that the Ottomans established a regional administrative base in As-Salt and encouraged settlement from other parts of their empire. Know more during the tour of Salt. Day 3 Amman Jerash Anjara Mar Elias Amman

The ancient city of Jerash boasts as unbroken chain of human occupation dating back more than 6 500 years. The city's golden age came under Roman rule and the site is now generally acknowledged to be one of the best preserved Roman provincial towns in the world. Close to Jerash is Anjar, the town where Jesus Christ, his mother Mary and his disciples passed through and rested in a nearby cave now commemorated with the church of Our Lady of the Mountain. To the west is Tall Mar Elias, the site where the prophet Elijah is believed to have ascended to Heaven in a whirlwind on a chariot of fire. Both Tall Mar Elias and Anjara are Millennium 2000 Pilgrimage sites designated by the Vatican. Overnight in Amman. (B)

Day 4 Amman Pella Umm Qais Amman

Pella is a favorite of archaeologists as it is exceptionally rich in antiquities. Besides the excavated ruins from the Greco- Roman period, including an Odeon (theatre), Pella offers visitors the opportunity to see the remains of a Chalcolithic settlement from the 4th millennium BC, the remains of Bronze and Iron Age walled cities, Byzantine churches and houses, an Early Islamic residential quarter, and a small medieval mosque. Pella boasts many interesting sites, many of them still under excavation. Site of the famous miracle of the Gadarene swine, Gadara (known today as Umm Qais) was renowned in its time as a cultural centre. More information while doing the sight seeing here. Day 5 Amman Madaba Mount Nebo Umm Ar Rassas Kerak Petra

Amman to Petra: Visit Madaba and the Basilica of St. George. Travel on to Mount Nebo, 800m above sea level, where you can stand on the site where Moses looked out over the "Promised Land". The Old and New Testaments mention it, the Romans fortified it, and the local Christians were still embellishing it with Byzantine-style mosaics well over one hundred years after the beginning of Muslim rule: Kastron Mefaa, modern Umm Ar- Rassas, has a long history. Proceed to visit the best preserved crusader castle in Jordan - Kerak. Overnight in Petra. (B)

Day 6 Petra Visit

Petra: Take a fascinating tour to admire the natural beauty and breathtaking architecture of this ancient city. Walk through the Siq, a colourful narrow gorge over a kilometre long which leads to the magnificent Treasury. See royal tombs, the Roman-style theatre, beautiful temples and museums. Day 7 Petra Dead Sea Bethany Mukawir Amman

From Petra transfer to The Jordan Valley which has profound meaning for religious travelers. Stunning archaeological discoveries between the Jordan River and Tell Al-Kharrar since 1996 have identified this area as biblical 'Bethany Beyond the Jordan', where John was living when he baptized Jesus. Within an hour's drive from Madaba along the picturesque Kings' Highway, is Mukawir, the hilltop stronghold of Herod the Great. Overnight in Amman. (B)

Day 2: Amman – Madaba – Mt. Nebo – Swim & Lunch at the Dead Sea – Petra

After breakfast, we will head towards Madaba city Best known for its spectacular Byzantine and Umayyad mosaics, Madaba is home to the famous 6th century Mosaic Map of Jerusalem and the Holy Land. Proceed to visit Mt. Nebo (site only as the church is closed down for renovation). Mt. Nebo is mentioned in the Bible as the place where Moses was granted a view of the Promised Land that he would never enter. The view from the summit provides a panorama of the Holy Land and, to the north, a more limited one of the valley of the River Jordan. Later we got for the Dead Sea  where main attraction is of course the soothing, abnormally salty water itself! The salt content of the water is 31.5% making the water so buoyant that it is impossible for the visitor to sink. Enjoy lunch at the main restaurant at the Warwick Dead Sea Resort! Upon completion, head to Petra via desert way. Overnight in Petra (BD)

 

Day 3: Petra – Full day Petra visit – Petra

After breakfast, explore the Nabatean Red Rose city of Petra via desert way on a full day tour. Petra is one of the 7 World Wonders, and is also a UNESCO World Heritage site! The Treasury at Petra is a massive façade, 30m wide and 43m high, carved out of the sheer, dusky pink, rock-face and dwarfing everything around it. There are hundreds of elaborate rock-cut tombs with intricate carvings - unlike the houses, which were destroyed mostly by earthquakes, the tombs were carved to last throughout the afterlife and 500 have survived, empty but bewitching as you file past their dark openings. Day 4: Petra – 2nd visit of Petra – Wadi Rum

Today you can explore Petra on your own (no guiding services included). Upon completion, transfer to Wadi Rum for the night. Dinner & overnight in Wadi Rum (BD)

 

Day 5: Wadi Rum - Wadi Rum Jeep ride - Free day in Aqaba at leisure – Aqaba

After breakfast, explore the moonlike landscape Wadi Rum on a 1.30 hour jeep ride. This desert is dotted with massive mountains, colored in shades of red, yellow, and orange. The Eco-system id Wadi Rum (AKA Valley of the Moon) holds many rare and endemic plants. Spring reveals hundreds of species of wild flowers. About 120 bird species have been recorded in the area, including the Griffon Vulture, the Fan-Tailed Raven, Bonelli's Eagle and Hume's Tawmy Owl. Overnight in Aqaba (BD)

 

Day 6: Free day at leisure in Aqaba

Today you enjoy a free day at leisure in the sole gulf city in Jordan! Greatly prized as Jordan’s window to the sea, Aqaba brings a refreshing release from the rose-colored desert to the north. Its sandy beaches and coral reefs are the most pristine on the Red Sea, and Jordanians continuously work hard to preserve it as such. Indigo-colored deep water lies just off shore in Aqaba, offering kaleidoscopic marine life within easy reach. Exploring means a leisurely drive to a private spot and a short swim out to the reef. Unusual vertical currents and sea breezes make diving cool and pleasant, even in the heat of the summer. Overnight in Aqaba (BD)

 

Day 7: Aqaba – Amman
